Let's Create Media recently hosted a workshop for the Kouga Municipality at the Mandyville Boutique Hotel in Jeffrey's Bay.
The workshop, titled 'Navigating Social Media: A Beginner's Workshop', looked at the importance of social media for a local municipality and how they can use social media to increase exposure and engagement, while also focusing on transparency and authenticity.
"In today's digital age, social media has become an indispensable tool for municipalities to engage with residents, foster community connections, and communicate important updates and initiatives," said Tanya van Zyl, Director at Let's Create Media.
"The workshop was designed to equip staff at Kouga Municipality with the knowledge and skills to leverage social media successfully for their municipality. Effective communication is key to building strong communities, and social media offers endless opportunities to connect, engage, and inspire."
Monique Basson, Head of Communications at Kouga Municipality, said the Social Media Workshop proved to be highly beneficial.
"Not only did employees gain valuable insights into effective communication strategies tailored to social media platforms, but they also gained new skills and knowledge that can enhance their effectiveness in their roles within the municipality – ultimately benefiting both the organisation an the community it serves.
"The Social Media Workshop served as a valuable investment in the professional development of municipal employees, empowering them to communicate more effectively, engage with residents, and navigate the complexities of social media in the context of local government."
Topics discussed included the importance of social media for local municipalities, a closer look at different social media platforms, mastering key features on social media and how to create engaging digital content. We also discussed a case study of a successful social media strategy by a municipality in South Africa.
"I look forward to seeing the positive impact of Kouga Municipality's social media journey. Here's to building stronger communities together!" Van Zyl concluded.
